A lot of people assume the content filter on Character AI is a teen-safety feature that adults can switch off once verified. It isn't. The ban on explicit content applies to every account on the platform, 18 or 80, and it always has. The policy in plain terms

The community guidelines from Character AI are explicit: sexually explicit content, pornography and erotic roleplay are prohibited outright, alongside graphic violence and hate speech. The company positions itself as a general-audience conversational product, closer to PG-13 than to an adult platform, regardless of who's on the other end of the chat. Romance and flirtation are tolerated. Anything that crosses into explicit description gets blocked, softened, or redirected by the moderation layer before it ever reaches you.

The company states that an ID is only ever requested as a last resort, and only by its third-party verifier, not by Character AI directly.
